| Time For Change Foundation Honors San Bernardino City Mayor And Other Elected Officials With Award |
| |
|
| |
| On Thursday, April 27, 2006, The Time For Change Foundation
hosted their Inaugural Dinner and Awards Ceremony, which this year paid
tribute to the Honorable Patrick J. Morris, City of San Bernardino
Mayor. |
| |
| The
event, which took place at the San Bernardino National Orange Show at
5:30 pm, promises to provide local businesses and non-profit agencies
annually with an opportunity to gain valuable exposure at what will
become one of the Inland Empire’s premiere events. |
| |
| "I
want to thank our Platinum Sponsors James and Teri Ramos who made it
possible for us to launch our Dinner and Awards Ceremony, which honors
such outstanding individuals" said Kim Carter, Executive Director and
Founder of the Time for Change Foundation. "Mayor Morris has a Vision of Change which embodies
the spirit of our organization. We chose to honor those who dare to be
agents of change and improve the lives of others through their civic
commitment." |

| Time
For Change Foundation provides homeless women and children in need with
the resources necessary to change the course of their lives. Women who
are recovering from the effects of mental and physical abuse,
incarceration and drug addictions are offered a nurturing environment
conducive to establish healthy living. Its home-style solutions service
the whole person, recognizing the environment or social economic
injustices that may have led to despair. Time for Change Foundation has
proven to be an organization at the forefront of improving the lives of
women and children desiring to achieve self-sufficiency by eliminating
homelessness and recidivism. |
| |
| One
of the success stories highlighted that evening came in the form of a
personal testimony from a graduate of the program; Melissa Padilla who
met Carter as she was finishing up a 5-month prison stint on drug
charges. With no family to turn to after her release, Padilla said she
knew she would return to her old habits if she did not have help.
Carter picked up Padilla, who was then pregnant with her now 7month old
baby daughter Monet at the time, at the gates of the prison.
Carter took her to get clothes, enroll her in a drug-treatment program,
meet with her parole officer and begun a plan of recovery to get
Padilla on the right track. |
| |
| "I
don’t know what I would have done without a Time for Change Foundation.
I'm a good clean mother now," stated Padilla. “I have my own apartment
now and I have a full-time job. I was lucky, I had someone there for
me, who believed in me. The Foundation helped me to rediscover that I
have good in me." |
| |
| Other
honorees included California State Senator Nell Soto, 32nd District,
California State Assemblywoman Gloria Negrete-McLeod, 61st District and
San Bernardino County Supervisor Josie Gonzales, 5th District. A
special award was given to Mr.& Mrs. James Ramos for their Platinum
Sponsorship supporting the shelter for women and children. |
