Building Thriving: Communities

We Would Like to Provide You With Relief During the COVID-19 Crisis

Time for Change Featured on CNN Heroes

Despite early efforts to keep inmates and staff safe, Covid-19 still spread rampant through one of the largest prison systems in the United States. More than 12,400 inmates in California have tested positive for COVID-19. There have also been more than 3,400 confirmed cases among employees. And there have been over 60 deaths. Early on in the pandemic, Kim Carter’s phone began lighting up with people asking for help. She knew we needed to do something. Here’s how our team at Time for Change Foundation has been responding to the pandemic.

Ashley’s Story

Ashley has been with TFCF for just over 8 months. In that time, Ashley has done such an amazing job working for herself on her path to independence. She has been clean and sober since her release and has been fighting hard to g et back fun custody of her children. In November, 2020, she took another step closer to that goal by obtaining her own apartment! The 3 bedroom unit allows for her to have her own bedroom with each of her kids getting their own bedroom as well! We are beyond excited for how well Ashley is doing and we look forward to watching her grow even further.

Josephine came to Time for Change Foundation (TFCF) on August 11, 2020 after completing five months at Magnolia Drug Treatment Program. Since 2016 she has lived in various sober livings and has been in six different drug treatment programs throughout Humboldt County. After entering our Brighter Futures Home, she was able to bring her son Michael home after 30 days in our program. After two years of addiction, Josephine was finally able to get a second chance to be the mother her son needs. With the help of treatment and now having a stable home, Josephine has been able to remain clean and sober for seven months. “I love everything about TFCF, everything they offer has helped me, I’ve been in every program, and nothing compares.”

Nortasia’s Story

After successfully graduating our Positive Futures I and Positive Futures II projects, Nortasia has overcome barriers she faced over years of being a formerly incarcerated woman and ultimately was able to reach self-sufficiency. By the time she was 15 she was sexually abused, raped and human trafficked to the point that she tried to commit suicide. Her sister found her in the bathtub after swallowing over 150 aspirin and she was then diagnosed with bipolar disorder and severe depression. “God must have been looking out for me because I got 2 years with half,” she said after receiving her sentence. When she was released, she went to Time for Change Foundation and got the help she needed. TFCF supported Nortasia for six months in the sober living while helping her to obtain her identifications, gain employment, a car, and eventually her own home! “My life has not always been easy but I’m thankful for my pain because I get to appreciate better blessings, I have in life today, thank you Time for Change!”
